Before you even start browsing wedding magazines for a wedding dress, first you must set the date of your wedding. This should be quite a delightful and challenging task for you. It may seem easy to pick a date – that is before you know the ton of things you have to consider. Prior to making your decision, there are many events and significant dates to take into account. The day you get married will be determined by factors such as venue availability, holidays, school schedules, who can attend, and many more.

The normal time allotted for the wedding preparations is usually from 12 to 18 months. Sometimes, a year is barely enough to see to the million and one details needed in making a successful wedding. One of the important factors when setting your wedding date would be the schedule of your immediate family and friends. You have to know that they will be available on the day of your wedding so that they may come to the celebration. Some of the things you might like to check would be business schedules, holidays, anniversaries, graduations and other occasions that may make it difficult for these people to come to your wedding.

If you choose to set the date during the wedding season, then be prepared for a few difficulties. It is not only more difficult to find available vendors and venues; the prices are normally higher too. Therefore, you have to be prepared for a higher-than-normal cost when booking for you after-wedding party venue, video recording services, floral decorators, limos and much more. Not only do you have to worry about the hiring rates, you also have to consider that most of those you want to hire or rent may already be fully-booked. Don’t set your heart at the first romantic venue that you find, remember that it may already booked, so don’t set your hopes up until the reservation is already set.

Weddings happen more frequently during the months of May to September. If you can, consider getting married one of the off months. You’ll find it a lot easier to book a venue for your wedding during the months of November to April. Not only would you have more choices available, you also have a better chance at negotiating price and terms. When you set your wedding date during the slow months, vendors would be outbidding the others to get you as their client.

If you chose a Saturday for your big day, then expect to have some competition from other couples wanting to get married on that same day. Saturday might be the day when most of your guests are free, but you may have a tough time coordinating vendor schedules and paying standard prices. It would be more advisable to hold your wedding on a Friday or Sunday, these are also considered good days for a wedding.

There is no wedding date without its challenges, and there are sure to be pros and cons to any possible date. Your challenge is to consider the best possible wedding date based on your needs and desires.
